Summer Ceilidh 2009
The 2009 Summer Ceilidh was held in the Jabrin Ballroom of the Intercontinental Hotel on May 14th. 190 guests were piped into the ballroom by the Chieftain?s piper, John Chalmers, and enjoyed dancing to the music of the Mad Parrot ceilidh band, flown in especially for the occasion from Dundee in Scotland. This was the first event held since Kenneth Macfarlane took over as Chieftain, and was voted a success by all in attendance. The society continues to enjoy the support of many local businesses in the form of raffle prizes and sponsorship. We were delighted to have Mr Ajit Engineer, CEO of Muscat Finance Company, our major financial sponsor of the event, in attendance at his first ever ceilidh! Coffee was provide throughout the evening by Nespresso, another of our sponsors, and raffle gifts were donated by
Panasonic, Fairtrade and Genetco amongst others. We are grateful to Mr Tom Tottn and Mr Redha Jaffer for their support in buying our auction items, donated by artist Jenni Eden, and Vue by Shannon Bennet at the Al Bustan Hotel.
Friday 15th May saw 120 enthusiastic youngsters accompanied by slightly jaded parents attend the kids ceilidh in the Sinbad Ballroom of the Crowne Plaza. This event continues to be very popular with our younger members, and we would especially like to thank Helen from Mad Parrot for her energy and enthusiasm in handling this event!
